So, let me take this opportunity to introduce to you my one and only blog title, Mr. Riley's Reflecting Pool!
Now before you roll your eyes, let me explain. Back when I was your age, I went to Washington DC with my family to visit the national treasures of our country, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Smithsonian Museum and more. Throughout all our visits and excursions, there was one image that lasted in my mind. When I stood on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, I looked back toward the Washington Monument and marveled at the mirror image of it in the Reflecting Pool.
This image also acts as a symbol for what I hope my blog to be. Just like a Reflecting Pool, I hope to take ideas that I'm thinking about and use my posts to reflect on them in meaningful ways. I also hope that my reflections not only represent my own thinking, but cause my readers to stop and think about them as well.
Sure there were other considerations for my title. The thing is, I'm a sucker for alliteration when it comes to titles. When I first thought of the double R possibility with Riley and Reflecting, I knew I was onto something. Then when I remembered my experience at the Reflecting Pool in Washington, I thought, that's it!
So what do you think? Does my title work? How about a title for your blog? What image or object might represent an idea that you think perfectly matches the purpose of your blog?

ReplyDeleteI noticed that you wrote an essay lead! I understand your representative because you explained in depth on how you got the idea. When I saw this post first, I made my own representative too. I also used my representative for the title of my blog. Your post gave me a lot of ideas!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Sara and Mr.Riley. Names are your representative and are original to you and only you. Names show you who you are, they are your identity. But I also believe that names have a purpose. They are not just given to you because they sound pretty but because there is a deeper meaning behind it. An example is when my mom named me, my name means gods blessing. You see it was really hard for my mom to have kids but when she did, she felt as if she was blessed to have me. Her one and only daughter. Another example is when I named my puppy, I knew that he would be a true friend and always stick by me so I named him Buddy.
ReplyDeleteI think the title for your blog, "It's All in The Name", helps readers to understand your topic better. It is almost like peripheral vision because, readers read your title and process the deeper meaning in it without noticing what they are doing. I think using good titles are important for blogs because, they help readers become hooked. For example, if your blog title were something like "Names are Important" I myself as the reader would feel reluctant to read the rest of your post thinking it would be as unintelligent or unimaginative as your title. For my blog title I will choose a name that suits my topic, bus issues. And if I am to put a picture on my blog I want it to be of a crazy- looking school bus on a luxurious background for contrasting effect, and to create the idea of "my bus" seeming exaggeratedly awful and boisterous. Definitely not a peaceful picture.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Mr.Riley. I think that a name really reflects what the specific thing will be about. It shouldn't be completely detached from the main idea. Your title for this blog post really hooks the reader in. It's creative therefore making the reader want to read more. I really loved the way you gave your own personal story of how you came up with the title of the blog. From this I have learnt to try to make my title from my own personal experience. This has given me an idea as to what I might name my blog. IAs a picture I would want to have a luxurious and whimsical background. It could be a room with candles and dim lighting in it. Beautiful sculptures and water fountains would surround the area. This would give the room a very relaxed effect. But in the middle of the room, there would be a girl sitting and doing her homework. Here I would mean to imply that even in the most relaxing places, we are forced to constantly work. She would have a phone next to her which would mean she was trying to call her friends. Overall. I think this is a wonderful blog post and has given me ideas on what to do in my blog.
